CANON’S OPENING SHOT
Printer giant Canon plans a push into the DNA chip market. The company has expanded its articles of incorporation to encompass “production and sale of pharmaceutical products,” which includes DNA chips. Canon has researched DNA chip-making for several years, using bubble-jet printing head technology. It is currently developing DNA microarrays for colon cancer screening as part of a Japanese government-funded project.
PE FINDS BIOMARKERS
PerkinElmer announced the first results of its two-year collaboration with the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center and Predictive Diagnostics to identify protein and gene targets involved in Alzheimer’s disease. The collaborators report finding biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease that are detectable using a simple blood test.
Agilent Technologies and Proteome Systems will collaborate on an integrated solution for analysis of glycoproteins. Proteome will make its GlycomIQ software for mass spec analysis of protein-associated glycans compatible with Agilent’s mass spectrometers. Glycosylation changes ocurr in many diseases. GlycomIQ kits include consumables and informatics software developed specifically for automated glycan analysis.
