Feb 15, 2006 | Affymetrix has launched the Microarray GeneChip Human Mitochondrial Resequencing Array 2.0, which provides a complete picture of variation in the mitochondrial genome, reducing the time, labor, and cost involved in sample preparation. The array interrogates all 16,500 bases of the human mitochondrial genome with only three polymerase chain reactions, providing scientists an efficient, cost-effective method for detecting variants associated with genetic disease, forensics, population studies, or stem cells. This array allows researchers to obtain sequence data about 10 times faster than conventional methods, Affymetrix says.
