Only 18 months after the launch of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Los Angeles-based philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad announced they are doubling their founding gift from $100 million to $200 million. The combined gift will be given as $20 million per year over 10 years.

A study conducted by the NCI, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and M. D. Anderson Cancer Center suggests that ovarian tumors classified as serous borderline or low malignant potential are not early precursors in the development of aggressive ovarian cancer, but may instead be part of an entirely different class of tumors.

Acacia Research’s CombiMatrix group is collaborating with Novavax to develop a technique to improve the process of synthetic vaccine production by tracking the genetic fidelity of the genes encoding the vaccine in the fermentation process.

DiscoveRx signed an agreement with the National Institutes of Health that will provide initial access to their PathHunter technology for small-molecule screening against selected targets of interest to the Molecular Libraries Roadmap Initiative.
