CLC bio to Launch High-Performance Computing ‘Genomics Machine’ at ISMB

Danish informatics company CLC bio will unveil the CLC 'Genomics Machine' at the Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB) conference in Stockholm next week, billed as the “first turnkey solution for analyzing and visualizing next-generation sequencing data,” including a hardware platform, pre-installed software, and an enterprise level database. Microsoft Names Les Jordan as BioIT Alliance Director

Microsoft has appointed Les Jordan, industry chief technology strategist for Microsoft’s life sciences team, as the new director of the BioIT Alliance, succeeding Rudy Potenzone. In his first interview, Jordan indicated a bright future for the consortium, with priorities including the implementation of standards and more significant engagement with big pharma. Understanding the Complete Picture of Genetic Variation

Herbert Auer, Director of the Functional Genomics Core, Institute for Research in Biomedicine is speaking at the 2009 Bio-IT World Europe meeting, 6-8 Oct in Hannover, Germany.

Auer's team obtained sequence information of 6.2 gigabases from two drosophila strains, resulting in 25 fold genomic coverage for each strain; this data set was used to highlight challenges of and solutions for understanding genetic variation from NextGen data.
