STRAND GENOMICS ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS TO POWER EXPANSION OF PERSONALIZED MEDICINE CENTERS IN U.S.

April 1, 2014

ROCKVILLE, MD, UNITED STATES - Apr 1, 2014 - Strand Genomics, Inc. (Strand) today announced its recent unveiling of a full suite of technology solutions that will support its expansion of Strand Centers for Genomics & Personalized Medicine (Strand Centers) into the U.S. At last week's ACMG 2014 Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting in Nashville, Strand demonstrated how its StrandOmics and Avadis-NGS Server Edition software support the end-to-end clinical genomics services that will be offered by Strand Centers as the company seeks to expand its successful model from India into the United States.

StrandOmics software enables the clinical interpretation and reporting of genomic variants for the diagnosis of a variety of clinical conditions such as rare inherited diseases, eye diseases, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. StrandOmics' proprietary knowledgebase associates DNA variants with clinical phenotypes along with literature references, and is growing at the rate of 10,000 new variant references every month. The Avadis-NGS Server Edition will support collaborative data analytics and storage for next-generation sequencing at the Strand Centers.

"StrandOmics provides all the scientific and medical information needed by medical geneticists to classify the variants in a patient's DNA that are associated with diseases. This allows them to annotate variants and to create reports that aide physicians in making accurate diagnoses faster," remarked Dr. Preveen Ramamoorthy, Laboratory Director and Head of Clinical Diagnostics at Strand.

"As more and more people in laboratories are  generating and consuming NGS data, there is a need to optimize processes for data sharing, scalability and efficiency of NGS analytics on a range of computing infrastructures," said Dr. Vamsi Veeramachaneni, VP of Software Development at Strand. "The Avadis-NGS Server Edition provides a significant performance enhancement, while allowing server administrators to scale computational resources to match  variable demand. It also enables collaborative projects by enabling users to share data and analyze results."

Strand's two proprietary bioinformatics products, including StrandOmics knowledgebase, combined with public databases and open data standards will work synergistically to power the Strand Centers.  These technologies have been developed and validated by Strand's partnering physicians at the more than 50 hospitals throughout India.
