President and CEO
New Equipment Improves Reproducibility
What is the history of your organization’s involvement in the life sciences?
Williams: Genomic Solutions has been in this market since 1997. We saw an opportunity to provide systems for the expanding opportunity in DNA microarrays and proteomics.
What is your vision for the development of the life sciences market?
Williams: Life sciences is a very exciting market because of the potential impact on human well-being. For the first time in human history, we have the technology to begin to understand the function of genes and proteins. Eventually this will lead to unraveling biochemical pathways and deciphering the mechanisms of various diseases.
What organizational assets have you developed to serve this community?
Williams: We are a very focused company; all of our systems are for DNA microarray work, high-throughput proteomics, or high-speed dispensing (HTS). However, unlike most other life sciences tool providers, we provide integrated solutions including all necessary instruments, software, reagents, and technical support. Genomic Solutions is not just an excellent engineering company; we also offer our customers significant applications support.
What new products and services do you have in development?
Williams: We will continue to focus on our three core areas: DNA microarray, proteomic, and HTS systems. We spend many millions of dollars each year on R&D to develop new products and applications in these areas. These new products will improve productivity, sensitivity, reproducibility, and costs.
