Transform Data into Corporate Assets

What is the history of your organization’s involvement in life sciences?
Iwata
: Hitachi Data Systems has been selling data storage and management solutions to customers in the life sciences industry for one year. Currently we have a number of life sciences customers and sales representatives actively engaging in this market space. With the life sciences market growing and developing so rapidly, and information technology playing such an intricate role in all aspects of this market—from drug development to genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics—we believe there is tremendous opportunity within this market to make an impact on companies developing and upgrading their IT infrastructures.

What is your vision for the development of the life sciences market?
Iwata
: We want to make an impact. Hitachi Data Systems is geared for long-term support of the life sciences industry. The IT growth is amazing, and there are so many issues that surround that growth: capacity, integration, manageability, scalability, and data protection, just to name a few. Life sciences companies have special requirements such as data and file sharing, data integration, accelerating time-to-market, improving document management to comply with FDA regulations, and safeguarding all R&D information while it remains updated and available 24/7. Our information infrastructure solutions help transform data into corporate assets.

What products and services does your company provide to the life sciences market?
Iwata
: The foundation for our information infrastructure solutions are our Hitachi Freedom Storage Thunder 9200 and Lightning 9900 systems. Both operate in open systems environments. Our Thunder 9200 scales up to 17.6 Tbytes, is based on an all-fibre architecture, and supports high levels of availability. Our Lightning 9900 enterprise class systems, based on the industry’s only internal all-fibre switched architecture, operate in S/390 and in open systems and support large scale consolidated storage pools with nearly unlimited scalability and nonstop data access availability.

We also build storage networks—SAN and NAS, and IP—using the open approach of Hitachi Freedom Data Networks framework. To manage, copy, and protect data, we offer software management tools and solutions such as Hitachi TrueCopy, NanoCopy, ShadowImage, CruiseControl, and RapidXchange.
