One result of the past year's mad merger activity in the pharma industry is that companies are re-evaluating their laboratory systems, looking to standardize on one LIMS that supports global business practices. There's no lack of choices for LIMS shoppers, and vendors are adding new features to meet growing data demands or needs of specific disciplines. Ocimum Biosolutions recently released its pharma-specific Pharmatracker LIMS, and is working on systems for pharmacogenomics and toxicogenomics. Applied Biosystems targets drug discovery with its new LS*LIMS, and GenoLogics serves proteomics with ProteusLIMS. Some vendors are focusing on better sample tracking. StarLIMS, for example, has implemented a module to manage information from radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags used for supply chain management.See the Company Listing.
