APPLIED ALLIED
Applied Biosystems/MDS Sciex and Dionex Corporation develop and market complete mass spectrometry-based solutions to detect environmental contaminants. The first such method, certified by the EPA, measures perchlorate, a thyroid toxin detected in water supplies worldwide.

THIRD PHASE
Transport Pharmaceuticals initiated a Phase III trial in cold sore indication with its device/drug combination product for acyclovir delivery. Phase II data demonstrated that the therapy reduces cold sore lesion healing time with a single treatment. Current therapies require multiple treatments over multiple days.

BROAD BROADENS
The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard University will install a suite of Applied Bioystems 3730xl DNA analyzers to support a range of integrated biomedical genomics projects, including de novo sequencing of mammalian and other genomes and disease-related genotyping analyses.

IN THE PIPELINE
The TB Alliance announced the start of Phase I clinical trials for the lead tuberculosis drug in its pipeline, PA-824. The Alliance directed and funded the drug's preclinical development with a network of 26 institutions in nine countries.
