MOVE TO MISSION HILL
Pfizer
is moving its Biotherapeutics and Bioinnovation Center, or BBC, to the Mission Hill area of San Francisco. BBC is headed by biotech industry veteran Corey Goodman, who joined Pfizer in the fall of 2007 (see, “Can Academics Save Pharma?” Bio•IT World, November 2007). The move will begin in early 2010 and will include about 100 Pfizer employees.

ANIMAL ALTERNATIVES
BASF
and Transinsight are working closely together to use semantic analyses to search for alternatives to animal testing. Both companies will expand the first specialized semantic search engine for this research area called www.Go3R.org to become a global platform. The search engine finds related terms and web pages that the companies hope will help researchers bring together knowledge on alternative and supplementary methods to animal testing.

SYMYX ENTERS THE SERVICES BUSINESS
Bristol-Myers Squibb
has contracted Symyx new Symyx Solubility Services. The services are part of Symyx Technologies’ Research Services for Life Sciences launched in late July. The 12 month agreement will focus on solubility studies.

IGC CHOOSES LABVANTAGE
The International Genomics Consortium
(IGC) based in Phoenix, Ariz., has licensed LabVantage Solutions SAPPHIRE BioBanking Solution. IGC was selected by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) to lead the Human Cancer Biospecimen Core Resource (BCR) component of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) pilot project. The SAPPHIRE BioBanking Solution will serve as a key informatics backbone supporting and maintaining the BCR.
