At a ceremony held earlier this week at the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland for the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) National Editorial Awards, Bio-IT World won gold and silver awards.
The Gold award for best signed editorial went to editor-in-chief Kevin Davies for his April 2004 “First Base” column, “A Black Eye for Bioethics.” The column presented the fallout from the sudden dismissal of the most experienced scientist, developmental biologist Professor Elizabeth Blackburn, from the President’s Council on Bioethics.
“I’m delighted with this award for First Base, and particularly this column” said Davies. “Maybe I should venture into the political arena a bit more often.”
Bio-IT World art director Mark Gabrenya added a silver award, for best front cover (January 2004). Once more, Bio-IT World’s publisher IDG bagged several honors, including best magazine of the year, which went to CMO, a magazine for marketing executives (under 80,000-circulation category).
