Tripos Inc., a provider of drug discovery chemistry and informatics products and services, announced that it intends to streamline its Discovery Research business and has initiated the 30-day consultation period with employees mandated by U.K. law when job losses are expected in the range of 20 to 99 positions. Any headcount reduction, which will reflect the evaluation and signing of certain pipeline opportunities, is expected to be finalized by the end of January 2006. Tripos Discovery Research Ltd. (TDR) currently has 164 employees, most of which are based at its facility in England. Read the press release.

Genedata announced the multi-year expansion of its collaboration with Roche to include all Roche high-throughput screening (HTS) facilities in North America and Europe. Scientists at Roche use Genedata Screener to estimate the biological potency of thousands of compounds as part of a unique lead discovery workflow. Initiated originally at Roche's research facility in Basel, the collaboration has integrated Genedata's data quality evaluation and analysis workflow with Roche's global screening infrastructure. Read the press release.

454 Life Sciences Corporation, a majority-owned subsidiary of CuraGen Corporation, announced today the initiation of a collaborative research agreement with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Under the collaboration, researchers at the Broad Institute will use 454 Life Sciences' system to conduct disease-related genomic studies in order to study the genetic basis for complex diseases, such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease. 454 Life Sciences has enabled its Genome Sequencer 20 System to perform "Ultra-deep Sequencing" of specific genes of interest for use in the collaboration. Turning Genomics Data into Practical Insight
Sponsored by SGI

With worldwide sequencing capacity approaching 13 quadrillion DNA bases annually turning genomics data into knowledge is a true computational challenge. Read this paper and learn how the SGI UV coherent shared memory platform can:

  • Speed results time while cost competitively tackling the most difficult computational problems across all omics disciplines.
  • Push performance by scaling to extraordinary levels, up to 256 sockets (2,560 cores, 4,096 threads) per single system (one OS image).

Provide support for up to 16TB of coherent shared memory in a single system image enabling extreme efficiency across a wide range of compute demands.

New Complimentary Market Survey…
Collaborations and Communications Within Drug Discovery Research
Sponsored by Accelrys
This survey was conducted by the Cambridge Healthtech Media Group in January, 2012. It was sponsored by Accelrys related to their HEOS initiative to gather valid information around externalizing collaborative research while improving communications in the cloud. With 310 qualified industry respondents the survey findings reveal useful usage and trends patterns.  An insightful follow-on discussion and webinar related to this survey, and the HEOS by Scynexis SaaS portal is also available on the Bio-IT World website for complementary viewing.
