Bio-IT Briefs

Chemical Computing Group (CCG) and BioSolveIT have introduced a graphical interface to BioSolveIT's high speed/high precision docking program FlexX within CCG's life science modeling software MOE. While the two software programs constitute independent executables, the integration will appear seamless to end users: MOE's strengths on the preparation and analysis side for ligands and proteins plus its variety of intermolecular interaction energy computations and informatics applications can be used directly before and after FlexX docking calculations. Both companies believe that multiple computational techniques and strategies will be required to address what is known in the community as the "scoring problem" — the prediction of binding affinity from docked structures. InforSense Ltd has entered into a partnership agreement with Linguamatics, a provider of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and its use in text search and mining.  Under the agreement, InforSense will provide access to Linguamatics I2E (Interactive Information Extraction) software tools from InforSense's text analytics platform, InforSense TextSense, to provide a single, flexible and accessible environment for constructing tailored, high performance text analytics applications. Linguamatics has also joined the InforSense Open Workflow Partner Network as the 25th member. Read the press release.

Tripos Inc. announced plans to support a robust open-source workflow platform developed by researchers at the University of Konstanz, Germany. A preview version of the Tripos Chemistry Extensions package for the KNIME open-source workflow platform is being made available today via download from the Tripos corporate Web site at http://www.tripos.com/knime.  The KNIME platform, developed by Prof. Michael R. Berthold and his colleagues at the University of Konstanz, will enable Tripos' customers to visually create and execute scientific workflows based upon a combination of Tripos and third-party discovery informatics products. The Tripos Chemistry Extensions package introduces "chemical intelligence" to the highly extensible KNIME platform, providing researchers with chemical structure manipulation, visualization, and other important analysis features. Phase Forward is offering a new version (4.1) of the Clintrace adverse event tracking and reporting system. Clintrace 4.1 features reporting capabilities that are the result of tight integration with Cognos Inc.'s ReportNet product. The Clintrace Reporting Workspace (the integration with ReportNet) will provide additional reporting on adverse event and operational information with enhanced data analysis capabilities. Clintrace 4.1 also features compliance with the FDA's new MedWatch 3500A changes ahead of the November 1, 2006 FDA-mandated deadline. Read the press release.

Turning Genomics Data into Practical Insight
Sponsored by SGI

With worldwide sequencing capacity approaching 13 quadrillion DNA bases annually turning genomics data into knowledge is a true computational challenge. Read this paper and learn how the SGI UV coherent shared memory platform can:

  • Speed results time while cost competitively tackling the most difficult computational problems across all omics disciplines.
  • Push performance by scaling to extraordinary levels, up to 256 sockets (2,560 cores, 4,096 threads) per single system (one OS image).

Provide support for up to 16TB of coherent shared memory in a single system image enabling extreme efficiency across a wide range of compute demands.

New Complimentary Market Survey…
Collaborations and Communications Within Drug Discovery Research
Sponsored by Accelrys
This survey was conducted by the Cambridge Healthtech Media Group in January, 2012. It was sponsored by Accelrys related to their HEOS initiative to gather valid information around externalizing collaborative research while improving communications in the cloud. With 310 qualified industry respondents the survey findings reveal useful usage and trends patterns.  An insightful follow-on discussion and webinar related to this survey, and the HEOS by Scynexis SaaS portal is also available on the Bio-IT World website for complementary viewing.
