More Than a Billion Base Potential

Feb 15, 2006 | Solexa has introduced the Solexa Genome Analysis System, which is comprised of the Solexa 1G Genetic Analyzer, the Solexa Cluster Station, and associated reagents, consumables, and software, designed to generate over a billion bases of sequence/run. The company says the system has the potential to increase productivity while reducing costs by over two orders of magnitude relative to current DNA sequencing technologies by enabling researchers to assess 5 million transcript tags/sample at costs comparable to those of hybridization assays. Solexa intends to use the new sequencing system to sequence the entire genome of a human this year and to make the sequence data publicly available.
