Compared to $1 billion or spent on the first human genome, the difference between $1,000 and $5,000 is just a rounding error. The cost of sequencing a human genome has fallen into the range of an expensive vacation, i. e., there are people who at present are getting their genomes sequencing for recreational purposes.
