Genomics on the Big Screen

March 15, 2013

March 15, 2013 |It’s been over 15 years since Gattaca took genetics to the big screen and pushed the boundaries of the public’s imagination. But where is genomic science reflected in Hollywood today? Author and director Brett Bonowicz hopes to answer that with ThePerfect46, a film that explores where genetics and social networks overlap.

“The topics we cover in the film—genetics, eugenics, the moral and ethical implications of a consumer genetics service, and the role of government vs. a DTC model—are discussions that deserve to be out in the public,” Bonowicz says in a blog for NGS Leaders. “This is a film of the moment. We have an amazing opportunity to make something right on the cutting edge of what is possible in personal genetics.” NGS Leaders
