November 14, 2014

November 14, 2014 | The next Top500 list of supercomputers won't be announced  until next week, but Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California announced today their plans to upgrade to a next-generation IBM supercomputer that will run at 150 petaflops. Titan, the supercomputer at ORNL, is currently the most powerful supercomputer in the United States according to the June 2014 list. It can achieve 17.5 Pflop/s (quadrillions of calculations per second). The new IBM machines will achieve speeds at least five times that. Nature
