2013 Bio-IT World Best of Show Winners Named

| The Bio-IT World Best of Show Awards were announced tonight at the 2013 Bio-IT World Conference and Expo in Boston. New products were recognized in the following categories: Web-based software; IT tools and data; IT infrastructure and hardware; and clinical trials and research.

Bio-IT World’s Best of Show program recognizes innovative solutions to important problems facing the Life Sciences industry, and the 2013 program saw 26 new products.

The field was considered by a panel of expert, industry judges, and twelve finalists were named in four categories. Two teams of onsite judges viewed the finalist products and demonstrations on Wednesday at the event.

This year’s winners and finalists were:

Web-Based Services and Software category

Winner: Biofortis for Labmatrix Chameleon 5.5.
Labmatrix Chameleon is a research management software system that can integrate clinical, specimen, genetic and molecular assay data, and the full life-cycle of Next Generation Biobanking sample management

Finalists:
Linguamatics for I2E 4.0
Sapio Sciences for Exemplar Multi-Tenant LIMS

Informatics Tools and Data category

Winner: Seven Bridges Genomics for the IGOR Platform.
The IGOR Platform is a cloud based platform run on Amazon Web Services that allows researchers from any technical background to run, customize, and share peer-reviewed pipelines and tools, including sophisticated tools like BWA+GATK for whole genome analysis and TopHat+CuffDiff for RNA-seq analysis.

Finalists:
Maverix Biomics Maverix Analytic Platform version 1.0
TopQuadrant TopBraid Life Science Insight

IT Infrastructure and Hardware category

Winner: Bright Computing for the Bright Cluster Manager 6.0.
Bright’s cluster manager is a tool for provisioning, scheduling, monitoring and managing servers—either in the cloud or on-premise—and allowing users to move between the two locations dynamically according to need.

Finalists:
Microway for WhisperBioWorkgroup
Quantum Corp. for Lattus

Clinical Trials category

Winner: ePharmaSolutions for PatientLive
PatientLive is a geo-therapeutic matching algorithm that links patients who disqualify from one study with other studies for which they are better suited.   The system then refers prequalified patients to the closest study and remaining patients can register to receive new study alerts. More than 20 major pharmaceutical companies and CROs have agreed to pilot the program and “share” patients.
