Antibiotic Research UK announces winners of ‘Bio-Baddie’ competition
York, UK, 18th May 2021 / Sciad Newswire / Antibiotic Research UK (ANTRUK), the world’s first publicly funded charity focused solely on tackling the global threat of drug-resistant infections, is delighted to announce the winners of the 2021 Bio-Baddie art competition. The competition encouraged participants of any age to draw what they think an antibiotic resistant bacteria might look like as part of British Science Week 2021. We would like to congratulate the winners Atharv, Gruffydd, Sindija and Samrin.
Without antibiotics, simple infections could become serious, and routine operations and treatments would be too dangerous to undertake. The Bio-Baddie campaign sought to raise awareness of the potential approaching pandemic of antibiotic resistance if we do not act now to develop new, innovative ‘resistance-breakers’ or novel antibiotics.
Professor Colin Garner, Chief Executive of Antibiotic Research UK, commented: “Antibiotic resistant infections can impact people of any age, gender or nationality, and are an issue we need to come together around the world to tackle. It has been fantastic to see so many young people getting involved in the challenge and taking an interest in antibiotic resistance. It is our hope that with this knowledge the next generation of potential innovators and scientists is going to be more informed than ever as the impact of drug-resistant infections continues to grow.”
