Preview:

The exploding size and complexity of biomedical data being generated today require that life science researchers adopt a new paradigm for enterprise research informatics. It is clear that academic medical centers and other healthcare providers cannot rely on electronic health records to serve as an enterprise-wide application on which to base their research initiatives. Pharma, biotech, and medical device companies also find themselves with multiple complex, mission-critical enterprise research applications that impede collaboration among researchers and aggregation and analysis of diverse data sets. These life science researchers engage in high-risk projects costing tens of millions of dollars as they attempt to patch together disparate data silos with a hope that they will be able to address their "big" data problems of today and prepare for the "big data" problems of tomorrow.

Join Gary Kennedy and Manish Muzumdar from Remedy Informatics, Inc., and Sanjoy Ray from the Merck Research Laboratories to discuss a new approach to life science enterprise research informatics based on a Cloud-hosted, registry-centric computing platform. This new approach enables innovation by individual life science researchers and more flexible, integrated enterprise-wide research applications.

Dr. Ray will review of enterprise informatics challenges faced by life science companies in today's evolving research landscape and discuss the Merck Research Laboratories experience with information technology innovation. Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Muzumdar will describe how to design and deploy a ontology-driven, registry-centric computing platform that enables life science researchers to aggregate, map, harmonize and analyze complex, diverse data from disparate information systems.

Learning Objective:

  • Learn how a collection of registries built on a common computing platform enables multi-dimensional analytics across medical specialties and biological systems
  • Learn how researchers can deploy purpose-specific databases (registries) for all specialties providing them with the framework on which they can collect and harmonize all data from all sources
  • Understand how an ontology-driven platform enables researchers to aggregate, map, harmonize and analyze diverse, complex data sets
  • See how a Registry or Registries enables effective cross-institution collaboration

Who Should Attend:

  • Executive leadership at life science and academic research institutions responsible for development of infrastructure to support research innovation
  • CIOs and CTOs charged with building information systems for life science research
  • Principal Investigators and scientists conducting life science research
