  • Volunteer laboratory network launched to expand Covid-19 testing for key workers

    OXFORD, UNITED KINGDOM - Apr 15, 2020 -
    • The UK urgently needs to expand Covid-19 testing capacity for front-line healthcare workers
    • There are thousands of laboratories in the UK with the right equipment and expertise to run these tests - but they are currently not being used
    • SBL, a medical research laboratory in Oxfordshire, is already running 250-500 tests a week for local GPs, with same-day results
    • This project, launched and funded to £1M by Mike Fischer CBE, aims to build an emergency volunteer network of laboratories willing to convert to Covid-19 testing, to supplement the Government's existing facilities
    • A national network could deliver tens of thousands of additional tests per day
    The Covid-19 Volunteer Testing Network launched on 1st April 2020 to provide essential additional testing capacity to front-line workers
